LGBT Asylum Seekers - Their Stories
Start Date/Time: Saturday, April 01, 2017 12:30 PM
End Date/Time: Saturday, April 01, 2017 3:00 PM
Category: Speakers
Description: Did you know that it is illegal to be gay in nearly 80 countries? The LGBT Asylum Support Task Force is a group of dedicated volunteers in Central Massachusetts who provide support for those who are seeking political asylum in the U.S. based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Since 2008, the Task Force has helped more than 130 individuals. Asylum seekers are vulnerable and traumatized individuals who have fled to the U.S. in fear of being killed or harmed in their countries of origin due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. The violence resulting from homophobia and anti-homosexuality laws in many countries around the world is rampant.

The volunteers of LGBT Asylum Support Task Force contribute to the financial, housing, social, and spiritual needs of asylum seekers as they embark on their journey to freedom in this country. Please join us on Saturday, April 1st, and meet some of our asylum seekers and hear their stories. Your support and compassion are incredibly important; we hope to see you then.

You can support the LGBT Asylum Support Task Force here:

Everyone is welcome to come to Shabbat services starting at 10:00 AM, and there will be a vegetarian potluck lunch.
